Dell Medical School Leader Presents at National Forum on TMD

Dr. John Luk presented at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Forum on Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD) on June 5. Dr. Luk, Assistant Dean of Interprofessional Integration at Dell Medical School and founding member of the Center for Health IPE Executive Steering Committee, presented on the attributes and pedagogical expectations for successful pre-licensure experiences using an interprofessional perspective. He was joined by Dr. Karen West, Director of the American Dental Education Association, and Dr. Christine Arenson, Director of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education.

The goal of this forum is to illuminate some of the key challenges and opportunities in preparing the dental and medical interdisciplinary and interprofessional workforces of the future to provide evidence-based, collaborative care to a person with TMD. Leaders in dental and medical education were invited to provide their respective visions for interprofessional education, training, and care and consideration of how those visions might include the complex set of conditions that is a TMD. The webcast of this forum may be viewed here, with Luk's, West's, and Arenson's respective presentations beginning around the 30-minute mark.
