Collin Hovinga, PharmD, M.S., FCCP, clinical associate professor at UT College of Pharmacy and Vice President of Rare Orphan and Pediatric Diseases at Critical Path Institute, was appointed to PCORI's Advisory Board for Rare Diseases (one of 7 members). 

Jung Kwak, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Nursing, and Alyssa Aguirre, LCSW, assistant director of dementia care transformation in the Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School, received a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services, in June 2024, to develop an innovative education and training program focused on supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) along with their caregivers.

The 2024 Health IPE Fellows have been announced. They will be celebrated at a private ceremony and reception in March.

Dr. Young, a scheduled plenary speaker for the Shiley Haynes Institute’s 2023 National Symposium for Academic Palliative Care Education and Research, March 2 and 3 at the Long Beach, Calif., Hilton Hotel, believes that palliative care professionals could be champions for interprofessional education.

Dell Medical School and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas have received a $1.2 million gift from John David and Leslie Moritz to provide scholarships for social work students, fund two more social workers at the medical school and help fund the department of health social work at the medical school, which is a joint program between the medical and social work schools.

On September 23, 2022, over 420 students and faculty from UT Austin’s health professions programs came together to start developing the competencies essential to effective collaboration on an interprofessional health care team during the inaugural Health Interprofessional Practice and Education (HIPE) Day.
