Research suggests that self-compassion is a powerful source of coping and resilience. In times of struggle, self-compassion involves treating ourselves with the same care and concern we would normally show to a good friend. It involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans, and learning to be present with the inevitable challenges of life with greater ease. This talk will present theory and research on self-compassion, which a burgeoning empirical literature has shown to be strongly associated with psychological well being. A brief self-compassion practice that can be used in daily life will be taught. Free admission. Fee for 1.0 CEU: $5 payable at the door. A light lunch will be served after the lecture.
