Call-for-Abstracts

The Center for Health Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) will host its 2nd Annual Interprofessional Health Showcase on May 1, 2020 to celebrate students’ and residents’ contributions to advancing person-centered and/or population-oriented health through research, quality improvement, and community engagement projects. Project Requirements
Undergraduate and graduate students and residents are encouraged to submit an abstract in one of three categories: (1) community engagement; (2) quality improvement; and (3) research.
  • Qualified projects must focus on advancing person-centered health care and/or population-oriented health.
  • Individual and team submissions are welcomed.
  • Projects involving students from more than one profession are strongly encouraged, but not required.
  • Completed projects are preferred, but projects in final stages will be considered.
Project Submission Categories 
  • Community Engagement: Generally Involves projects conducted in collaboration with a community organization that address health and/or well-being of individuals, populations or communities.
  • Quality Improvement: Generally involves projects where the primary focus is improving processes that affect health care delivery and/or the health of a population or community.
  • Research: Generally involves a systematic inquiry conducted with the intent of increasing knowledge. It entails the collection of data, analysis, and interpretation of findings. Descriptive studies, including comprehensive literature reviews and case studies, are sub-categories of research. Submissions that center on a patient case are required to include highlights of a literature review in the abstract.
Abstract Requirements  
An abstract provides a brief description of your work for the goal of enticing individuals to read and review your work in poster format. Requirements include:
  • You are required to use the template provided online or request one at the email provided below. The abstract must contain the following sections: (1) background; (2) objectives; (3) methods; (4) outcomes; (5) conclusion.
  • Format: Times or Calibri; 11 point font; 1” margins; single-spaced
  • Your pdf document must be saved using the following naming convention (last name of first author, first name). E.g., Smith, John.pdf
  • The maximum word count for the abstract is 350 words, excluding project title and authors.
  • The abstract should be written in complete sentences.  Please check for correct spelling and syntax.
  • The abstract must be reviewed and approved by your sponsoring faculty before submission.
  • An example is provided online for your reference or you may request one by emailing the contact below.
  • All abstracts are due March 6, 2020 by 11:59 PM via this site. You will be asked to upload your abstract in pdf format. Your PDF must be saved following the naming convention requirement (see format).
  • Please be prepared to provide the following information when you are ready to submit your abstract online:
    • Names of all authors, their major/profession, and email addresses
    • Names of all faculty supervisors and email addresses
    • Type of project (community, research, or quality improvement)
    • Whether a faculty supervisor has reviewed the abstract
    • Whether one or more of the authors will be able to present on May 1, 2020
Review Process and Presentation Requirements
  • Students whose projects are selected will be notified by the first week of April and will be given guidelines for printing their posters for presentation at the showcase.  
  • If your abstract is accepted, at least one author is required to be present during the poster presentation on May 1, 2020 at the UT Austin Student Union Ballroom between 10 AM and 2 PM.
  • Information on poster dimensions will be provided in the acceptance letter.
Poster Award Categories
Awards will be presented for the following categories: 1) community engagement; 2) quality Improvement; 3) research; 4) project in progress; 5) visual layout; and 6) interprofessional project.
