Barbara Jones is Professor and Associate Dean for Health Affairs at the UT Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work. She is co-director of the Institute for Collaborative Health Research and Practice, and holds a courtesy appointment with the Center for Women and Gender Studies. She is also a clinical assistant professor of Pediatrics at University of Texas Galveston Medical School, collaborating faculty member at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and research consultant at Dell Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Jones’ research focuses on improving care for children, adolescents and young adults with cancer and their families. She teaches courses across the curriculum on topics such as grief and loss, social work in health care, psychosocial oncology and interprofessional education (IPE). Originally from New York, Dr. Jones’ clinical experience has been primarily in the fields of pediatric oncology, children’s grief and loss, pediatric palliative and end-of-life care, adolescent and young adult oncology, grief, trauma, and survival. Her current research focuses on coordinated care for children facing illness, family resilience, pediatric palliative care, pediatric oncology social work interventions, and adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors. Dr. Jones is a core member of the Steering Committee for the UT Austin Center for Health Interprofessional Practice and Education and was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. In March 2019, it was announced that Dr. Jones will serve as inaugural chair of the Department of Health Social Work within Dell Medical School.
